After tipping his hat to the great Bill Withers, you can expect José James to be much more personal in his third appearance at the Festival da Jazz. On the first single from his recently released album, for example, he addresses the murder of George Floyd in his home town of Minneapolis. But the entire album also pulsates with the vibes of Marvin Gaye, Prince and Stevie Wonder. James skillfully explores the boundaries of black music beyond the borders of his home country and collaborates successfully and extremely inspired with artists from South America and Africa.
